Barbara Anderson, a 35-year resident of Brookings, has been hired by Brookings Health System to fulfill the role of foundation development officer.

As development officer for Brookings Health System Foundation, Anderson will communicate the Foundation’s mission and cultivate philanthropic gifts to support charity care for those less fortunate, health and wellness education, facility, equipment, and technology upgrades, and other needs as they arise at Brookings Health System. She will also coordinate volunteers who contribute their time to the Foundation.

“All of us who choose to live in the Brookings area, as well as those who visit loved ones here, can participate in achieving Brookings Health System’s goal of Inspiring Health,” said Anderson. “Baby boomers like me can appreciate and support refreshing new models of health care like the new skilled nursing facility. It’s a culture change that will enrich our quality of life when we visit our parents and eventually when we live there ourselves. I’m excited to lead the Foundation’s efforts to help raise funds in support of Brookings Health System.”

For the past two years, Anderson directed public relations and community events as outreach coordinator for the National Children’s Study at SDSU. Prior to that, Anderson worked for LodgeNet Interactive, Inc. in Sioux Falls as senior director of operations and product manager. In Brookings, she was director of sales, marketing and installation at Swiftel Communications and station manager at KBRK radio.

In addition to her extensive work experience, Anderson has been involved in several community organizations, including the Brookings Ice Hockey Association, Brookings Area Habitat for Humanity, and the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce. She is an SDSU graduate and is currently pursuing her master’s degree.
