For the second consecutive year the South Dakota Department of Health cited no deficiencies to Brookings Health System’s hospital during its most recent health survey, placing the hospital at the top of the class for facilities statewide.

“Our continued deficiency free status means we follow all regulatory requirements and demonstrates to our community our team’s dedication to providing excellent patient care,” said CEO and President Jason Merkley. “I’m very proud of our employees and how they deliver our mission to provide high-quality, compassionate, personalized health care.”

The department of health’s new Patient Safety Initiative survey examined how the hospital handles infection control, quality improvement and discharge planning. The department of health assessed processes in place for measuring care quality and patient safety as well as making sure patients receive proper education and information upon being discharged from the hospital.
