The Neighborhoods at Brookview’s most recent nursing home survey conducted by the South Dakota Department of Health resulted in zero deficiencies cited, placing the skilled nursing facility at the top of the class for nursing homes statewide.

“It is extremely difficult to receive no cited deficiencies from state surveyors,” said Administrator Jason Hanssen. “Only a handful of nursing homes in the state received a deficiency-free survey from the department of health in the past year.”

State surveyors examine all areas of nursing home care, including quality measures, charting, care plans, environment, and resident/family interviews.

“Attention to detail and great quality of care is key to doing well on the state survey,” said Hanssen. “We have fabulous, experienced managers and highly-trained staff who know their job and do it well.”

The deficiency-free survey will reinforce The Neighborhood’s five-star rating from the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which includes health inspections as part of its star rating system for nursing homes. In addition, the facility’s most recent family/resident survey, which included a 96% overall satisfaction rating and a 97% recommendation to others rating, also indicates the excellent care residents receive at The Neighborhoods.

The Neighborhoods at Brookview nursing home offers short and long-term care to residents. The facility embraces the household model of care which aims to create a homelike, social setting for residents. Staff incorporates the five person-directed values in care: Choice, Dignity, Respect, Self-Determination and Purposeful Living. For more information, please visit www.brookingshealth.org/Neighborhoods
