Where did the summer go? August brought another month of fun activities and events for the residents and staff at The Neighborhoods. We were blessed with wonderful weather for our resident/family picnic which was held on August 12. Hy-Vee catered a great meal, all three tents were full of family and friends, and we were all entertained by Bruce Dysthe and his wonderful singing voice. Just shy of 300 people attended this awesome event!

The month of August also brought us our last visit for the summer from the Boys and Girls Club kids! An awesome partnership with them has created a school year event where the same kids will be coming every Monday afternoon to spend time with the residents for fun crafts and games!

KFC was our big outing for the month. With over 40 residents signing up to go out to eat, we had to take three separate trips to accommodate everyone! It’s a little overwhelming in the beginning to try and coordinate a big trip like that but it is so worth it in the end when everyone gets to go! I can’t thank my awesome co-workers, Joyce Perry and Annica Hornick, enough for all their hard work with all the outings. Also a special thanks goes out to Loran Perry for driving the bus, Carla DeBeer and Janice Justice! Trips like that would not be possible without great volunteers like them!

We have big events planned for the upcoming months as well. October is filled with HOBO day activities. Our Trick-or-Treating event will be held on Saturday, October 22 from 1:30 to 3:00 in the afternoon (more information to come). We also will begin collecting items for our resident Christmas store that will be open the first week of December. If you have any items, including wrapping paper and gift trimmings, you would like to donate to the store, please feel free to drop it off at The Neighborhoods front desk.

Again, we are always looking for volunteers to assist us with our activities and events! If you are interested, please contact the Human Resource Department at (605) 696-9000.
