Where did the summer go? As the fall season comes into full swing, we reflect back on all the fun we had the last few months here at The Neighborhoods! From weekly outings to group activities, the resident/family picnic, the Watertown Zoo trip, fishing, and more… Whew! We were busy! We continued to have wonderful attendance at our weekly outings, averaging about 20 to 25 residents on each trip.

The trip to the zoo in Watertown was awesome. Twenty-six residents and volunteers spent the day enjoying the outdoors and all the animals. The resident/family picnic was held August 11. The day was absolutely perfect: beautiful weather, great food from Hy-Vee, awesome entertainment from Bruce Dysthe, and an exceptional turn out from residents and friends and family. We are so blessed to have wonderful relationships with all the residents and their families. It makes each event/activity more special!

As the weather starts to turn cooler we will continue to take outings if the residents choose to have them. We will start scheduling more educational and demonstration events for the residents to take part in here at The Neighborhoods. Halloween is right around the corner as well, and we will be having our yearly Trick-or-Treating event here at The Neighborhoods on Saturday, Oct. 28. We have started taking donations of bagged candy for the residents to use to hand out to the kids that come in to trick-or-treat.

Raffle tickets for The Neighborhoods quilt will remain on sale until Oct. 23, with all proceeds going towards the resident activity fund. November will be here before we know it; please be watching your mail for the Thanksgiving invite. The first part of December we will hold the resident Christmas Store. For those of you who are not familiar with this, the Christmas Store is a shop that is set up in the great room for residents to “Christmas Shop” for family and friends. Most residents do not have extra funds to purchase Christmas gifts for people which is saddening for some residents. This Christmas Store allows each resident the opportunity to shop for FREE. The items that are on display are all donated items from local businesses, staff members, family, friends, and organizations. The gifts can be brand new or gently used. We have volunteers that come in to wrap presents and help people shop. It is truly a wonderful two day event!
