Brookings Health Acquires New 2-in-1 Radiography System
- March 23, 2026
Brookings Health has invested in a new GE Precision 180 remote digital radiography and fluoroscopy system which performs both high-resolution X-ray and fluoroscopy imaging.
“This investment supports the continued growth of Brookings Health’s imaging services and positions the organization to meet increasing demand for advanced diagnostic procedures while enhancing safety, comfort and efficiency for patients,” said Director of Imaging and Respiratory Services Nicole Winseman. “The increased precision and improved image quality will help clinicians more accurately diagnose patient conditions.”
The new system can image all general X-ray tests needed for diagnosing orthopedic, chest, abdominal, urinary and other conditions. In addition, the system can perform fluoroscopy, a moving X-ray that helps clinicians see how the body functions in real-time. Common fluoroscopy procedures performed at Brookings Health includes video swallow studies to check for issues in the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract, small bowel/lower GI studies to test for problems in the colon or rectum, hysterosalpingograms (HSG) used in fertility evaluation, and arthrogram examinations to assess joint pain and soft tissue injury.
Patient benefits of the new system include:
- Reduced Radiation Dose: the system uses advance dose optimization technology to maintain high image quality while significantly reducing radiation dose by up to 59%.
- More Comfortable & Accessible: the system has an open design for improved accessibility to accommodate a wide range of body dimensions, including bariatric patients up to 705 lbs.
- Faster Exams & Shorter Wait Times: system automation streamlines technologist workflow, leading to shorter exam times and faster patient throughput.
Brookings Health System’s radiology department offers the most comprehensive clinical imaging capabilities in Brookings. Local patients can also receive MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, fluoroscopy and X-ray procedures close to home, saving them time and money. Images can be shared with any medical provider from any health organization. For more information, please visit brookingshealth.org/Imaging.
