State Department of Health Cites No Deficiencies at the Hospital

Brookings Health System recently underwent three separate health surveys for three different areas of the organization, including the hospital, nursing home and lab, with outstanding results.

“The survey results simply validate the dedication of this health system to providing a safe environment and high quality care to the patients and residents we serve,” said CEO Jason Merkley. “As the CEO, I could not be prouder of our organization’s staff and the exceptional care they deliver to each and every patient and resident.”

Brookings Health System’s recent hospital survey conducted by the South Dakota Department of Health resulted in zero deficiencies cited, placing the hospital at the top of the class for facilities statewide.

“A zero deficiency rating is a rare feat for any organization that is surveyed within South Dakota,” said Merkley. “In my years of experience, I have never been involved with an organization that was found to be deficiency free.”

In addition, the South Dakota Department of Health recently surveyed The Neighborhoods at Brookview skilled nursing home. The Neighborhoods performed over 40% better on their survey than the average nursing home in the state, ranking them among the top facilities.

The hospital’s laboratory was also recently surveyed by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), a federal organization managed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The laboratory had an excellent survey with minimal deficiencies, maintaining the laboratory’s history of high survey performance and placing them among the top of the 240 clinical laboratories surveyed in South Dakota.

Brookings Health System continues to deliver high-quality care rated at or above the South Dakota averages and above the national averages for patient safety, outcomes and satisfaction.
