Fifth Annual EMS Rodeo Scheduled for Friday at Hillcrest Park

This week, May 20-26, Brookings Health System will celebrate National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week to honor the dedication of EMTs, paramedics, first responders, and others who provide lifesaving services to our community.

“Our first responders and ambulance staff are right at the front lines, providing the urgent medical care that saves patients lives,” said Chief Nursing Officer Tammy Hillestad. “Besides being the first contact for emergency medical care, our EMS personnel are also at the ready during sporting and special events and are actively involved in educating our community about safety and wellness.”

In recognition of EMS week, Brookings Health System’s Ambulance Service will hold their fifth annual EMS Rodeo on Friday, May 25 from 12-2:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Park. The event is free to the public and includes a picnic, inflatable games, face painting, ambulance tours, and practice CPR.

In addition, ambulance service staff will pass out ice cream certificates throughout the week to local children they spot wearing their helmet while bike riding.

Brookings Health System’s Ambulance Service provides emergency 911 Advanced Life Support (ALS) services for the City of Brookings, much of Brookings county and the communities of Aurora, Bruce, Bushnell, Sinai, and Volga. The ambulance service also assists area ambulance services from Arlington, Clear Lake, Elkton, Estelline, White and Lake Preston when requested.
