Brookings Health System recently expanded its existing same-day wound care clinic services to include amniografting and debridement, enhancing care options for wound patients. Dr. Jeffrey Johnson of Avera Medical Group will perform the outpatient procedures at Brookings Hospital.

Amniografting applies skin substitutes to wounds on a weekly basis to enhance healing, control inflammation and reduce scarring. Debridement removes dead and damaged tissue from wounds to help a patient’s body recover naturally and develop new skin. Both procedures take between 30 to 60 minutes; patients may return home immediately following the procedure.

Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse Lisa Malone, RN, will assist Dr. Johnson during procedures. She is also available to treat patients with wounds caused by medical treatments, disease or injuries; or patients with ostomies, surgical openings that allow for the elimination of bodily waste.

A physician referral is required for wound care. For more information, please call (605) 696-8888 or visit www.brookingshealth.org/Wound.
