Two new vehicles were recently purchased for Brookings Health System thanks to funds raised by Brookings Health System Foundation.

A new Type III ambulance was added to Brookings Health System’s five-vehicle ambulance fleet thanks in part to funds raised during the 2014 “Come to the Rescue” campaign. Community donations to the Foundation’s campaign, which ran from August to December 2014, totaled over $47,000.

The new ambulance replaces an older Type III ambulance. It is built and stocked as an advanced life support (ALS) unit and now serves as the primary 911 response unit. Brookings Health System’s ambulance team provides the only ALS service in Brookings County.

In addition, the Foundation purchased a new resident transport van for The Neighborhoods at Brookview skilled nursing home. Monies came from the “Make This House a Home” fund, the Foundation’s 2013 campaign which raised over $620,000 to purchase items identified as above and beyond the nursing home building project. The van was identified as a need for the facility during the campaign.

Brookings Health System’s 2013 “Make This House a Home” campaign raised money to support The Neigbhorhoods at Brookview, including a recently purchased handicap accessible van. “Our new van is a great asset to our residents,” said The Neighborhoods at Brookview Administrator Jason Hanssen. “It is handicap accessible and includes a loading ramp and room to transport two residents in wheelchairs. It also has room for four other passengers.”

The van will be used to transport residents to and from shopping, medical appointments and other social activities like fishing and dining at restaurants.
