Brookings Health System recently hired Derek Degen as the new business office and registration director.

In this role Degen manages the overall operations of business office functions for all health system business units to ensure timely, legally compliant and accurate billing. He and his team also provide estimates for planned and routine hospital services to help patients budget for paying out-of-pocket expenses. 

Degen is also responsible for collections of account receivables and maximizing related cash flow. He oversees reception, appointment scheduling and patient registration staff as well as claims specialists and financial counselors.

Degen brings five years of health care experience to his position, most recently serving as the clinic manager at Avera Medical Group in Sibley, Iowa. He received his master’s of public administration, healthcare administration from the University of South Dakota and his bachelor’s in political science from South Dakota State University.
