Karen Bumann Hired as Physician Assistant

Brookings Health System will open a new health clinic inside White Healthcare Center in White, S.D., in the space previously occupied by White Family Practice Clinic, which was operated by Hendricks Community Hospital.

White Medical Clinic will begin seeing patients on April 2. Clinic hours will be Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Karen Bumann will serve as Physician Assistant (P.A.).

Bumann received her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2005 and a Physican Assistant Program degree from University of North Dakota School of Medicine, Department of Community Medicine and Rural Health in 1994. She has 18 years of experience as a P.A. and most recently worked for Horizon Health Care as the Clinical Informatics Director and P.A. for Lake Preston, Howard and Bryant Community Health Center clinics. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and a fellow of the South Dakota Academy of Physician Assistants. Bumann also serves as a member of the Physician Assistant Advisory Committee to the South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners.

“I am excited to serve the people of White and look forward to providing exceptional health care and education services,” said Bumann.

In addition to Bumann, Dr. Jim Walery will serve as the clinic’s overseeing physician.

The clinic will offer primary care, women’s health, pediatric care, immunizations and preventive medicine. It also offers area residents access to imaging referrals, enhanced laboratory services and medical specialists. An integrated medical records system gives patients a continuity of care at Brookings Health System’s main campus.
