Brookings Health System’s Hospital Surpasses Patient Experience National Average on Hospital Compare

  • August 13, 2013

Hospital also meets or exceeds nearly all state averages

New quality data on the patient experience recently issued on Hospital Compare, www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov, shows Brookings Health System’s hospital surpasses the national average for all eight dimensions on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey. In addition, the hospital meets or exceeds seven out of eight state averages.

“At Brookings Health System, our goal is to exceed our customers’ expectations,” said Chief Nursing Officer Tammy Hillestad. “The patient experience data released by Hospital Compare validates our effort to deliver high quality care to our patients.”

Hospital Compare is a consumer-oriented website created by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that provides information on how well hospitals provide recommended care to their patients. The information helps consumers make informed decisions about health care.

Scoring is based on patient responses to the HCAHPS survey. The survey measures eight assessment areas, including:

  • Communication with Nurses
  • Communication with Doctors
  • Responsiveness of Hospital Staff
  • Pain Management
  • Communication about Medicines
  • Cleanliness of Hospital Environment
  • Quietness of Hospital Environment
  • Discharge Information

The information provides consumers a snapshot of how Brookings Health System’s hospital and other hospitals throughout the nation and state perform.
