Brookings Health System invites the community to celebrate National Nurses Week 2013 on Friday, May 10 with LeAnn Thieman, author of “Chicken Soup for the Nurse’s Soul.”

At the brown bag lunch sponsored by Brookings Health System Foundation, Thieman, a renowned motivational speaker and a nurse for more than 30 years, will share her thoughts about why nurses choose a career in health care

Theiman’s uplifting presentation honors nurses and shares the life-changing lessons she learned when in 1975 she was ‘accidentally’ caught up in the Vietnam Orphan Airlift. Her book, “This Must Be My Brother,” details her daring adventure of helping to rescue 300 babies as Saigon was falling to the Communists.

An ordinary person, Theiman struggled through extraordinary circumstances and found the courage to succeed. Believing we all have individual "war zones," she will inspire attendees to balance their lives and truly live their priorities.

Thieman is one of Chicken Soup's most prolific writers. Along with being the co-author of “Chicken Soup for the Nurse's Soul,” she has also co-authored 10 more Chicken Soup books.

The presentation is free to the public and will be held 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the Community Life Center, located at the corner of Sixth Street and Sixth Avenue, adjacent to the First United Methodist Church. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch.
