Capital Campaign Reaches $3.1 Million Mark

Importance to county citizens prompted the Brookings County Commission to approve a $750,000 contribution to support the Brookings Health System’s hospital expansion and renovation project. As seen above, the project will add 62,500 square feet to the hospital’s east side to house surgery, medical imaging, obstetrics and medical/surgical care. Brookings County Commissioners recently approved a $750,000 contribution to Brookings Health System Foundation in support of the Progress Lives Here hospital expansion and renovation capital campaign.

“During the 2016 budgeting process, the commission discussed the importance of the hospital expansion and renovation project to Brookings County citizens,” said Commission Department Director Stacy Steffensen. “The board budgeted $750,000 in the county’s Fiscal Year 2016 budget to support the project.”

Brookings County’s pledge raises the campaign total to over $3.1 million. To date, the Foundation has received gifts from over 100 donors, moving the campaign closer to its $4.6 million goal.

“We want to thank the county commission and the many private individuals and businesses who have donated to the campaign so far,” said Foundation Development Officer Barb Anderson. “Our Foundation board and volunteers continue working to reach our goal.”

Brookings Health System’s expanded and renovated hospital will create a healing environment that reflects the high quality care currently delivered by care providers. It will be built to grow with the community, to attract new service providers, to increase capacity and productivity, and to enhance the overall patient experience.

The project will add 62,500 square feet to the east side of Brookings Hospital to house surgery, medical imaging, obstetrics and medical/surgical care. A new 30,000 square-foot medical office building connected to the hospital will be built simultaneously on the west side. Existing hospital space will also be renovated to accommodate services displaced due to the new construction and house ancillary staff currently located off campus.
