DONA Birth Doula and ICEA Postpartum Doula Workshops to be held at Brookings Health System

  • March 07, 2012

As a part of the ongoing initiative to improve labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care, Brookings Health System will host two doula workshops this spring.

Brookings Health Systems will again offer the popular DONA Birth Doula workshop on March 24 and 25 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in hospital conference rooms A and B. This workshop provides hands-on education for providing physical and emotional support to birthing women and their families. It is one step in meeting the requirements for becoming a volunteer doula at Brookings Health System.

On April 21 and 22, Brookings Health System will host an ICEA Postpartum Doula workshop from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in hospital conference rooms A and B. This workshop focuses on hands-on education for providing physical and emotional support to new moms and their families during the postpartum period.

Each workshop costs $350, with the fee waived if applying to become a volunteer doula at Brookings Health System. They are recommended for doulas, nurses, lactation counselors, childbirth educators and other health care professionals.

Both workshops will be lead by Marilyn Hildreth of JM Birth Consultants, a registered nurse, chair of the CIMS mother friendly nurse recognition program, and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

People interested in these workshops may register online at www.jmbirthconsultants.com. Questions may be directed to Brookings Health System’s OB Nurse Manager Mary Schwaegerl at 605-696-8811 or mschwaegerl@brookingshealth.org.
