Brookings Health System will hold the first American Heart Association CPR Course for the public at the new Ambulance Station and Education Center on Thursday, March 7 from 6 to 9 p.m.

“Our new classroom is setup to accommodate health-related instructional courses and incorporates the latest QCPR training manikins and technology,” said Ambulance Director Gordon Dekkenga. “QCPR training manikins give CPR instructors real-time information about how a student performs chest compressions and airway ventilation. This feedback allows instructors to relay quality information to students and offer suggestions on how to improve their technique. This reassures students they can perform high-quality CPR that will save lives.”

The American Heart Association CPR Course is recommended for health care providers and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support. The class uses realistic scenarios and simulations to cover adult, infant and child CPR as well as ventilation using a barrier device, Automated External Defibrillation and choking relief for adults and infants.

Subsequent 2019 class dates at the Ambulance Station and Education Center include April 4, May 6, June 6, July 8, Aug 1, Sept. 9, Oct. 3, Nov. 4 and Dec. 5. Cost for the class is $50. Participants may register online at brookingshealth.org/CPR.
