Free Community Breastfeeding Forum Slated for Oct. 7

Brookings Health System invites the public to attend the free Community Breastfeeding Forum on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in hospital conference rooms A and B.
The forum will be led by Linda J. Smith, an internationally renowned lactation consultant and author. She will present on breastfeeding topics and offer education to area parents and those passionate about breastfeeding.
Smith develops and presents lectures, courses, and educational materials about breastfeeding management through Bright Future Lactation Resource Center. She co-authored the book, “Impact of Birthing Practices on Breastfeeding,” and serves on the ICLA’s Professional Education Council and the United States Breastfeeding Committee. She also works as a lactation consultant and helps mothers and babies with difficult breastfeeding problems and spent 20 years teaching childbirth education classes.
In addition to the forum with Smith, tours of the newly remodeled New Beginnings Birth Center will be available from 2 to 3 p.m. in the afternoon and again before the forum from 6 to 7 p.m.
The forum is being held in conjunction with the South Dakota Breastfeeding Coalition’s Regional Breastfeeding Summit, held on Monday, Oct. 8 at the Swiftel Center in Brookings. The Regional Breastfeeding Summit is hosted by Brookings Health System.
