Free Glucose and BMI Screenings Set for Nov. 19 at Arlington Medical Center

  • November 04, 2014

In support of American Diabetes Month, Arlington Medical Center will hold free glucose and body mass index (BMI) screenings on Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the clinic.

CNP Tonya Froehlich and RN Allison DeCurtins will conduct the screenings. BMI checks will indicate an attendee’s risk for developing Type 2 diabetes based on height and weight. Glucose screenings will check an attendee’s blood sugar levels and indicate whether they are diabetic or pre-diabetic. Fasting is not required.

The clinic will also offer diabetes education to help attendees identify the risk factors for developing diabetes, learn how to reduce their risk of developing diabetes and diabetes symptoms, and understand more about pre-diabetes and signs of diabetes.

In addition, recommendations and referrals will be given to attendees with elevated glucose levels or at risk BMI measurements. Those individuals identified as being diabetic will be encouraged to follow up with their primary care provider to ask for a referral to Brookings Health System’s diabetic education services to learn to manage diabetes. More information about Brookings Health’s diabetic education services can be found at www.brookingshealth.org/Diabetes.

All community members are welcome to the screenings; no appointment is needed. For more information, please call Arlington Medical Center at (605) 983-3283.
