Greetings from Maple Ridge and Ash Boulevard

  • Spring 2018

All of us here on Maple/Ash are so looking forward to spring! Everyone has had enough of the snow and cold and are longing for the green grass and warm weather.

One of the residents here on Maple Ridge recently shared her thoughts on life at the Neighborhoods. Geneva Mattson has lived here with us since July 2017. She has become one of the Neighborhood’s best cheerleaders.  Geneva couldn’t be happier here and states, “This is just a wonderful place to live and I love it here!” One of Geneva’s favorite sayings is, “This place is so clean, you could eat off the floor but I wouldn’t recommend it!” Geneva also speaks highly of the activities and entertainment available. She attends the music programs, movies, Bingo, church services, and gets her hair done
routinely at the beauty shop. Coffee time in the afternoons is also a favorite of hers and is usually spent at the dining table with fellow residents and snacks. Geneva states, “I’m here for the rest of my life; I always say change what you can and accept what you can’t.”

With spring just around the corner, Geneva went on to reflect on those wonderful first days of the new season walking outside and hearing the meadowlarks for the first time. Of course seeing the sunshine was equally good. Geneva also recalled the major spring cleaning her mother would do, including pulling up the carpets, hanging them on the clothesline and beating them.  Dust storms and burning coal made it necessary to wash walls. Easter was an exciting time for Geneva both as a child getting a new dress and shoes to cooking a big meal for her family after she was married. Ham, scalloped corn, and her mother’s favorite lime jello with shredded carrots and cabbage were always on the menu. Geneva’s favorite dessert was always pie while her mom made angel food cake with fruit topping. Speaking of Easter, you are welcome to join us here at the Neighborhoods for our noon meal. I’m sure it will be just as good as Geneva’s. Contact the kitchen gals with your reservation.

Warmer weather means outings will start soon. The Maple/Ash residents are looking forward to jumping on the vans and buses and heading out again. Our residents enjoy shopping trips, eating out at various restaurants around town, the fishing trip, the trip to the zoo, the occasional movie at the theater, the summer picnic, and just about anything Joyce can dream up.
