We are in the middle of holiday season and we have been busy. We started the holidays with Halloween. To add a little fun, our staff had a theme, “The Wizard of Oz.” The night before the trick-or-treating, our staff laid out a yellow brick road and dressed up as the characters.

We had our Christmas party where we played Christmas Bingo. The prizes were wrapped Christmas presents that each resident could choose from. For snacks we had ice cream cake, vanilla cake, and an assortment of Christmas cookies. While eating we did some Christmas Trivia. We also had presents for our residents to open on Christmas morning.

Over the winter months we have some different events taking place. Once a week after supper the book, Farmer Boy, by Laura Ingalls Wilder is being read. With this book we will have read all of the Little House series. Also we have new game, Hungry Hungry Hippo. The residents sit in a circle and use a clothes basket with a handle to pull small balls from the middle of circle toward them. The resident with the most balls is the winner.

On a daily basis our residents partake in daily exercise group, where not only we move our joints and stretch out a little bit, but also exercise our brains by counting by 1’s, 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, etc. Prior to starting our exercises we review the events that have happened “On This Day In History” and take a look at the “Famous Birthdays”. This is a fun group to partake in as someone always has a story to tell and jokes are often made. In our Restorative Room we have a new piece of equipment, a shoulder pulley system to help maintain the ability to reach up.

We are looking forward to a crisp winter and to lots of visits from our friends and family. We always have coffee, hot cocoa or tea available along with a cookie or snack.
