ICEA Birth Doula and Postpartum Doula Workshops to be held at Brookings Health System

  • April 22, 2015

To further develop the volunteer doula program for parents delivering their baby at New Beginnings Birth Center, Brookings Health System will again host two doula workshops this spring.

Brookings Health Systems will offer the ICEA Birth Doula workshop on May 15 and 16 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in hospital conference rooms A and B. This workshop provides hands-on education for providing physical and emotional support to birthing women and their families. It is one step in meeting the requirements for becoming a volunteer doula at Brookings Health System.

On May 29 and 30, Brookings Health System will host an ICEA Postpartum Doula workshop from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the hospital’s central conference room. This workshop focuses on hands-on education for providing physical and emotional support to new moms and dads during the postpartum period.

Each workshop costs $350, with the fee waived if applying to become a volunteer doula at Brookings Health System. They are recommended for doulas, nurses, lactation counselors, childbirth educators and other health care professionals.

Both workshops will be led by Marilyn Hildreth of JM Birth Consultants, a registered nurse and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

People interested in these workshops may register online at www.jmbirthconsultants.com. Questions may be directed to Brookings Health System’s OB Director Mary Schwaegerl at (605) 696-8811 or mschwaegerl@brookingshealth.org.
