Home Health and Hospice Director Lynne Kaufmann, RN, was recently appointed to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) professional education committee. She will serve a two year term starting Jan. 1, 2016.

The professional education committee helps identify professional practice gaps in the field of hospice and palliative care for providers nationwide. It also identifies educational needs, advises NHPCO staff on the development and delivery of professional development activities, assists in evaluating professional development activities and evaluates the effectiveness of NHPCO’s professional development program.

“I hope to bring the perspective and needs of a small, rural hospice agency to the NHPCO professional education committee,” said Kaufmann. “Continuing education on patient care techniques helps care providers in our field better care for patients facing end-of-life and their families.”

Kaufmann has worked in home care and hospice for 25 years, serving as a home health nurse before assuming the director role at Brookings Health System in 2005. She also serves on the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organization’s Home Care Council and the South Dakota Medicaid Advisory Committee.

With 20 years of experience, Brookings Health System’s hospice provides local nurses, volunteers, chaplain, social worker and 24-hour support to help care for patients facing end-of-life.
