Home Health and Hospice Director Lynne Kaufmann, RN, was recently appointed to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) professional education committee for a second term. She will serve another two years starting Jan. 1, 2018.

The professional education committee helps identify professional practice gaps in the field of hospice and palliative care for providers nationwide. It also identifies educational needs, advises NHPCO staff on the development and delivery of professional development activities, assists in evaluating professional development activities and evaluates the effectiveness of NHPCO’s professional development program.

“I like serving on this committee to help provide input from a small agency’s perspective to fill the gaps in education about end-of-life care,” says Kaufmann. “Updating education on patient care techniques will help us take better care of our patients and enhance patient/family satisfaction. This will promote success in caring for terminally ill patients.”

Kaufmann has worked in home care and hospice for 27 years, serving as a home health nurse before assuming the director role at Brookings Health System in 2005. She also serves on the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organization’s Home Care Council and the South Dakota Medicaid Advisory Committee.

With 22 years of experience, Brookings Health System’s hospice provides local nurses, volunteers, chaplain, social worker and 24-hour support to help care for patients facing end-of-life.
