Dr. Ellen Hopper, OBGYN, of the Avera Medial Group-Brookings will hold a free informational presentation and question and answer session on da Vinci® robotic-assisted hysterectomy on Monday, May 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Brookings Health System’s hospital conference rooms A and B.

“Hysterectomy is the second most common gynecology procedure among U.S. women; one in three women will have had a hysterectomy by the time they are age 60,” said Dr. Hopper. “Minimally invasive approaches like robotic-assisted surgery allow women to undergo a hysterectomy without a large abdominal incision. This shortens hospitalization time, reduces pain, and speeds up the time women may return to work and their daily activities and routines.”

Dr. Hopper will provide information on conditions that may warrant a hysterectomy, different techniques used to perform hysterectomy, and how a patient may benefit from da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery. In addition, she will answer audience questions.

This March, Brookings Health System became the third health care provider in the state to actively offer advanced robotic surgical technology. The da Vinci surgical system provides additional clinical benefits and efficiency in the operating room, resulting in improved patient outcomes. Patient benefits of robotic surgery include decreased pain, a quicker recovery, and minimal scarring. Patients also have less risk of infection, blood loss, and shorter hospital stays.

Seating for the event is limited. For more information, or to reserve your place, call (605) 696-8888. To watch a video of the da Vinci system in action, please visit www.brookingshealth.org/robot.
