Last week Clark Drew Construction began the demolition of Brookview Manor nursing home and started construction to create the new outreach specialty clinic at Brookings Health System.

Brookview Manor’s former activities and therapy area, beauty shop, storage room and employee locker space will be transformed into the new 2,000 square foot clinic. The clinic will include three exam rooms, a procedure room, office space for visiting physicians, and a waiting room and reception area. The remodel is scheduled for completion in November.

“Service to the community is the key reason for establishing the outreach clinic,” said CEO Jason Merkley. “Our goal is to bring in physicians and surgeons who would not otherwise locate in Brookings. Hosting out-of-town specialists at the hospital provides access to needed services here at home rather than requiring patients to travel elsewhere for health care.”

Specialists hosted at the clinic will include those out-of-town physicians who currently conduct regular outreach at the hospital’s emergency department. Because of the limited capacity to host outreach specialists in the emergency department, the new area will allow Brookings Health System to increase the number of specialists who establish outreach in Brookings.

Physicians who currently conduct outreach at Brookings Health System and will transition to the new clinic include:
