Sinner and Nelson Appointed as Directors at Brookings Health

Brookings Health System has appointed two new directors, Megan Sinner, nationally registered paramedic, as ambulance director and Lora Nelson, RN, as director of surgical services.

As the newly promoted ambulance director, Sinner provides care and coordinates pre-hospital advanced and basic life support services to patients within the current paramedic guidelines. She also is responsible for maintaining Brookings Health’s ambulance fleet and equipment and provides supervision to ambulance team members, including paramedics and EMTs. 

Sinner has over 16 years of experience in emergency medical services, serving Brookings Health System as a certified paramedic for the past 14 years. She has also held leadership roles for continuous quality improvement with Brookings Health’s ambulance service and is a Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team member for the Brookings Area Response Team. Sinner completed her Associate of Applied Science Degree in medical/fire rescue from Lake Area Tech in Watertown, S.D. As a resident of Estelline, S.D., she serves as a volunteer paramedic for the Estelline Volunteer Ambulance Service and as a substitute teacher for the Estelline School District

As the new director of surgical services, Nelson is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective surgical care. She oversees perioperative staff in the outpatient surgery unit, preoperative unit, operating room, post-anesthesia care unit and sterile processing department. 

Nelson comes to Brookings Health System with over 29 years of nursing experience, most recently serving as a perioperative nurse at Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital. She also brings over 14 years of clinical leadership experience. She received both her bachelor's and master’s of nursing as well as her master’s of healthcare administration degree from the University of Phoenix. Her community service includes volunteering for the Veterans Community Project in Sioux Falls and serving on the board of directors for the Minnesota Network of Hospice and Palliative Care
