  • October 18, 2012

Sleep Study LabBrookings, S.D. – Oct. 18, 2012 – The community is invited to an open house at Brookings Health System’s Sleep Diagnostics Facility on Thursday, Oct. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. The sleep study lab is located on the first floor of Brookhaven Estates, 2400 Sunrise Ridge Circle.

The public will be able to tour the home-like facility, speak with respiratory therapists trained in conducting sleep studies, and ask any questions about sleep research studies. In addition, a complimentary screening will be offered that people may use to follow up with their physician. Refreshments will be served.

One out of three people do not experience quality sleep. This can be a sign of an underlying sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea, which a sleep study at Brookings Health System’s Sleep Diagnostic Facility can help diagnose.

Symptoms of an underlying sleep disorder include:

  • Snoring
  • Sleepiness during waking hours
  • Being overweight
  • Morning headaches
  • High blood pressure
  • Irritation, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating
  • Difficulty staying awake while driving, watching TV, reading a book or attending a meeting
  • Waking up choking for air or having a skipping or racing heart during the night

The sleep study lab open house is held in conjunction with Respiratory Care Week, Oct. 21-27, an annual celebration that recognizes respiratory care therapists and promotes awareness of lung health issues and practices.
