Parents and children alike are invited to dress as their favorite super heroes at the annual Super Hero 5K Fun Run and Walk set for Oct. 12 at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex (S-JAC) on the SDSU campus. In addition to the 5K and the 1-mile kids’ run, the event will include a family-oriented health fair. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit BATA.

Brookings Health System and Brookings Hy-Vee will host the annual Super Hero 5K Fun Run and Walk on Saturday, Oct. 12. The race will start and end at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex (S-JAC) on the SDSU campus.

The event will include a kids’ 1-mile race at 8:30 a.m. with the main race starting at 9 a.m. Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite super hero; prizes will be given for the best costumes. Participants who register by Sept. 30 are guaranteed a race t-shirt in their ordered size for adults or a cape for children participating in the 1-mile race.

In addition to the races, the event will include a family-oriented health fair with informational booths on wellness activities, safety, and nutrition. A Super Hero photo booth and fun activities and games for all ages will also be available.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Brookings Area Transit Authority (BATA), a non-profit organization that provides transportation services within the greater Brookings County area. BATA’s passengers frequently include youth, elderly and disabled individuals. Frequent passenger destinations include Brookings Health System’s facilities and other health care providers.

Cost is $15 for adults and $7 for the kids’ 1-mile run. Race packets may be picked up 45 minutes before the kids’ 1-mile start; registration closes at 8 a.m. the day of the race. Participants may register online at brookingshealth.org/SuperHero.
