It was very, very horrible. I was there under a heart condition. I was in AFib with 178 beats per minute. I never seen a nurse. I never seen a doctor. I was waiting in the waiting room for 15 minutes. I had the lady in the front call back, says, I got one for you. And then she told me to have a seat. I sat there with heart problems. A nurse and a doctor came in into the triage room to look for a package, left, didn't pay me any attention as I'm sitting there as a heart patient. I said, you know what? I can die somewhere else. I got up, left, and went to urgent care. Never seen a doctor, never seen a nurse, never even triaged. That was my experience.

Yes, I was checked in very efficiently, very effectively, very quickly. I really appreciated that. I was on the assumption that it could be dealing with a heart attack when actually it was COVID that had set in and that was not detected by the emergency group.

All of the staff I encountered were top notch! Nurse Jen was absolutely amazing. So very patient and caring. Kept me very well informed about everything, even letting me know that ultrasound results typically take some time. Toward the end of my visit, there were quite a few other patients who checked in and things started to get very busy. I was made aware of this by multiple staff members. I understand things can get super crazy in an ER real quick and I figured the nurses and doctors were tending to patients with issues far more urgent than mine. And for that, I am very thankful! Thank you for a wonderful visit and for being so caring and helping to set my mind at ease. I came into the hospital in a lot of pain and with a lot of very scary thoughts in my mind. I left there in much better condition! I have had two visits at the Brookings ER this year and I would not hesitate to go back if I ever needed. Great facility!!

I presented with very mild symptoms - twinges under my left breast. In the past these twinges have been precursors to having stents. This time I went home from the ER Saturday morning, then to the Heart Hospital cardiologist on Monday morning where a Stress test was ordered immediately. The findings were abnormal and I was told to 'take it easy' until I could have an angiogram. I would like to have had the ER doctor look more closely at my records and to have given me specific instructions to 'take it easy' on Saturday. I think a warning would have been in order instead of a dismisal. Thank you for asking. The nurses were fantastic.

The doctor absolutely refused to check me out and it was later that day that I was sent to Sioux Falls Emergency Hospital to be seen and have an MRI done where they found that I had a L4/L5 bulging, pressing up against the nerve root and L5/S1 having major issues as well. The ER doctor at Brookings interrogated me, remarked saying ... his remarks was saying that he was refusing to even ... to do anything, not even give me a Toradol shot because he did not believe me, and the pain and suffering he left me in was *

The doctor didn't do a full evaluation of me. They pulled blood but never ran labs on it and then tried to tell me it was something there was no way it was possible of being. I followed up with my doctor the next day, you can't even update that info when it's given to you, and she was able to diagnose and help me. This is a completely worthless hospital as far as I'm concerned. I wish we were closer to Sioux Falls so we could get better care

I would like to tell you that I was disappointed in the fact that the doctor was only there, just came in and left immediately. I did not find anything else. The nurses were very good, but I just think the doctor should have come in and told me what to expect after I got home. I just feel like I was left in the lurch. I really don't have any more, and I am disappointed because I have been there in emergency before and I have had good care, but I felt like I was just another person in there, get me out of there.

Only saw doctor 1 time, pretty much didn't listen to what my wife and me was saying. Nurse had a outwardly and aggressive attitude, especially after refusing a covid test, since that had nothing to do with my condition at all. Nurse didn't go through discharge papers, and clearly didn't read my notes prior to taking the IV out, not knowing I was on blood thinners. PA, came in once at the end, wanting to reasses and reevaluate me, not sure why I have a long history of Coronary Artery Disease. Sweet people labeled me with anxiety, even after explaining the many times before where this happened, everything looked fine. But still I ended up with getting stents in the following weeks. Overall and absolutely the worst possible careteam I've ever experienced in my time with having a heart disease, no understanding about my situation, no afford to understand why I was there and how the past have shown me that if I ignore symptoms, then I'll risk my life (happened twice, got me a total of 4 additional stents), which was also somewhat caused by ER teams just brushing me off. I now understand why a lot of people told me to never go to the ER there, and that the drive to Sioux Falls would be worth the time and risk, and go to Sanford there instead. If it's in regards to a heart condition.

I'm really grateful for the professional services you provided with me. But if you may keep it up, you're really doing a good job. And I think the only thing that I wasn't informed was about my payment and also from my former care before I came back there, they hadn't informed you about my challenges, the care about financial. So that's the only thing I wanted to learn how it's going to help me. Well, I applied for the clemency program and I haven't heard from you. That's the only thing I may need to be aware so that I plan myself. But otherwise, I thank you and good job. Keep up.

Yeah, I did it for emergency purposes. The whole hospital needs to be fixed. I went in and I went out and just better as I went in and I still only got problems up there. If it wouldn't have been for the orthopedic doctor, I'd probably be dead by now. So the hospital wouldn't listen to any of my problems and I don't think they understood what was going on. Bye.

Hi, I came in with a cut finger that was actually cut to the bone and had severed the flexor tendon and the check-in person and the nurse were wonderful. The doctor looked at me and he's like, I can't do anything with this. And I was like, okay. And well, it looks like it's kind of healing and just wrap it up. It's too late to do stitches, which I already knew. And but I did want a referral and I said, it's cut further. And they said, well, I don't think it's very deep. And they did do x-rays. And I said, I want it looked at because she didn't even look at it. And the nurse cleaned it up, wrapped it back up. And they did give me a referral to Sioux Falls to a surgeon and they did have to do surgery. So when he said.

This is what I have experienced. I have been in the Brookings ER for myself or my family members, and have never been mistreated. I have heard from other people who say that they were mistreated and or misdiagnosed in the Brookings ER. I have not ever experienced those things myself. I don't necessarily believe those people, but was never there when they were, nor do I know what their expectations were? I have been in ER in a nearby city with my parents several times over the past 7 years, and it's always a 4-10 hour process once my parents were in a room. It's excruciating. Brookings ER is not like that. I was a CPS Social worker and was with children in the ER, and mostly IHS ER's and would have to step on toes of the providers to get the children's medical care completed. I have never felt that way at Brookings ER, they have always given me medical diagnosis and recommendations, and allow me to me make informed decisions about my medical care instead. Always professional, always very polite, always quick to respond and get my health care met. I go there because I trust them that I will be helped with my medical needs; and, it will be done professionally and respectfully. I just scratch my head when I hear people complain about Brookings Health System and ER, because, I have not ever witnessed anything negative. I wonder if People are not understanding that the ER treats high trauma and provides emergency care to patients in life and death situations, and it's not systematic like walking into a clinic. I guess, I myself suffered from secondary trauma from being in CPS and know how trauma affects immediate response workers. Two and a half years ago, I was brought to Brookings ER by ambulance following a motorcycle accident, and I owe my life to the Brookings ER. That's impartly why I'm taking EMT training, because it's about duty and paying it forward.

I understand ER can be busy but I think there should be more than one doctor working. That is not enough to cover when it is busy. I was left with an infection and no treatment was prescribed. Luckily I could followup with my primary care provider to get treatment and start feeling better. Staff was to busy to answer help with call lights if needed something.

My injuries from my accident were largely overpowered by my injuries of my 7hr visit to the ER: I had blood drawn at least 4 times. The first lab tech "blew" a blood vessel, from which I carried a very large bruise. The next 2 or 3 lab techs, tho I also carried more bruises from their actions, were much more careful. The fact that I was not explained to about the fact that they needed to repeat a blood draw 3 times to check the enzyme level in the area of my heart could have been something I should have learned before I had already been in the ER for 5-6 hrs; I would have understood the delays. I realize am ER is a very busy place most of the time, but I spent most of my time there alone, and things were not explained to me until I was ready to leave against medical advice: I believe more care in explaining would have made my visit much more tolerable. However, I understand why the tests were needed, but I would have been more satisfied if things were better explained to me before they occurred instead of not until after 6 hours of my presence.

Everybody did pretty well, the nurses could have been a little bit speedier at getting things done in there initially, but they did a very good job at that. There was one particular nurse. I remember named Heidi that I thought was excellent. It seems as though she couldn't go enough for me and I didn't ask her to do anything extra necessarily but she seemed to have the people personality to be a nurse like she is. And nothing seems to be a any extra work for her. She wouldn't... didn't have to go out of our way. So to speak to do what I needed her to do and I did very much appreciate that.

Upon arrival because my name is not a usual English name. At one point after saying my name the receptionist actually asked me like what country it was from. And I had nothing to do with like covid symptoms or like if I've been out of the country or those kinds of things, and I've been there before so all my records are there. So I just, I didn't really appreciate it ,and answer was this country because it's actually a Lakota word, and I just didn't think that was very appropriate especially when I was standing there hardly able to get my breath because I had walking pneumonia. Also when I was between ,when I was brought back from x-ray that gal was real sweet ,and I heard her tell them that I was back in the room ,and ,and she told me that they'll be back in to hook you up because it turned out I was just really*.

I think my visit to the R ... ER and the treatment I had there was the first actual relief I had with this spinal problem. And he gave me morphine first and then waited for a while and the pain was still there, but not as bad. He gave me another one and I was able to sleep for the first time in days and I ... when I left I felt better than I had ever been because I finally was rested. So, and they explained everything, which was great. And yeah, I really appreciate the care, so thank you.

The only person that really gave me information about my scan, was my nurse, she did care, she saw and read my the notes of the scan. The doctor did not see things that were there. WHY? My nurse was the best. The two gals that did the scan/procedure, they were very knowledgeable at what they were doing. I am a U.S. citizen and like to be treated like one.
