Biography

Victoria Wakeman is a certified birth and postpartum doula trainer. She trains new doulas coming into the profession and seasoned professionals seeking to expand their education. She is also a birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator and peer lactation counselor. Victoria has been a professional doula running her own business since 2002, joining the doula program at Brookings Health System in its infancy. She is now the doula program coordinator at Brookings Health System, leading and educating the doulas in the program as well as working as a doula herself.

Victoria is one of only four approved CPI International Doula Trainers teaching the birth and postpartum doula course and labor support skills for nurses. She is currently studying to train birth professionals in childbirth bereavement support.

Victoria draws upon many years of experience in the birth world. She additionally served as executive director for a local pregnancy help center.

She enthusiastically works to spread warm and positive support and evidence-based education to families in all aspects of pregnancy, labor and delivery, breastfeeding and postpartum. She aims to contribute whole-heartedly to the childbirth support environment. Part of her philosophy is believing in collaboration among childbirth professionals to work together to give families the most positive, joyful, and peaceful birth experience possible. She also believes in ongoing evidence-based learning for herself. Her most honored role is that of a wife and mother of nine children. She is honored every time she is invited by families to support them as a doula and invites families to reach out to her.
