Pediatric Emergency Care

Nurse examining child in pediatric emergency roomFrom minor illnesses and injuries to emergencies, bringing your child to the Emergency Department can be a frightening moment for you and your child. You and your child can count on the expert staff at Brookings Health System’s Emergency Department to give your child the quality health care they deserve.

All Emergency Department nurses are certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support. They must renew their certification every two years, staying up to date on the latest advancements in emergency pediatric care. In addition, our nurses are also TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Course) certified which also includes training in pediatric trauma.

We have specialists on call, including general surgeons, an ophthalmologist, and an ENT (Ears, Nose and, Throat) specialist. We also have a pediatrician on our active medical staff.

Our Emergency Department has a special room dedicated to children including the exam table, “Brooks” the dog. The room creates a child-friendly atmosphere and is set-up to comfort your child during a time of distress, even including a TV.

The Emergency Department also uses the Broselow-Hinkle Resuscitation System to assist in emergency resuscitation by helping experts quickly identify a child’s weight zone and provide pre-calculated medication dosages during emergencies.

Our experienced and competent staff is qualified to treat your child in the time of need. We will keep you and your child informed, while keeping you both as comfortable as possible.
