How to Perform a Forward Leaning Inversion
Video Transcript
The forward-leaning inversion developed by Spinning Babies untwists uterine support ligaments and better positions your baby’s head. It is part of the recommended daily movements for preparing your body for labor and delivery. To perform a forward-leaning inversion:
- Sit high on your knees on a sofa or chair that is low enough to the ground. Make sure your knees are right at the edge.
- With a spotter supporting your shoulder and arms, lean over and walk your hands down to the floor.
- Bring your elbows down. Let your neck relax and tuck your chin in. Bring your back up to tilt your uterus open.
- Hold the position for three deep breaths, letting your belly relax.
- Come back up on your knees with your hips stacked over your knees and take another three deep breaths. Then relax on to your heels and bring your legs forward.
You can do the forward-leaning inversion after 20 weeks of pregnancy. It’s one of the three balances, or three sisters, labor positions along with the jiggle and side-lying release. Together the three balances can improve your body’s comfort and help you have an easier birth.
