Hospice Volunteers

The goal of hospice is to maximize the comfort and quality of life for those with a terminal illness. This is done through a holistic approach which includes physical, psychological and spiritual care.

Hospice volunteers have a special place in their hearts for being with hospice clients and their families. Some have had a family member who was a hospice patient. Others just want to be helpful. Some are interested in learning more about hospice and what it means for clients. All receive training in being truly present with someone, listening closely, responding empathically and maintaining confidentiality.

Hospice Volunteers:

  • Provide caring supportive companionship
  • Prepare/serve meals or snacks
  • Perform light homemaking tasks
  • Pick up mail
  • Visit the client in hospital (if admitted and desired)
  • Run errands for family
  • Read to clients
