How to Refer for Interventional Pain Management

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Brian Kvamme completed fellowship training in advanced pain management from the University of South Florida College of Nursing in Tampa, Fla. He is board-certified in non-surgical pain management and offers a weekly pain management clinic at Brookings Health’s outreach clinic.
Kvamme works with referring providers to help manage patients’ pain. He assesses patients’ pain in clinic and develops a care plan tailored to the individual. Acute and chronic pain conditions Kvamme sees patients for include:
- Neck and back pain
- Non-surgical joint pain
- Osteoarthritis
- Radiculopathy
- Neuropathy
- Chronic regional pain syndrome
- Herniated disk
- Muscle pain or spasms
- Chronic headaches
- Myofascial pain
Kvamme uses non-opioid methods to reduce pain, helping patients regain function and improve their overall quality of life without risking addiction. Some of the opioid-sparing procedures he offers include:
- Epidural steroid injections

A referral is required for interventional pain management services. When making a referral to Brookings Health, please:
- Include the patient’s name, date of birth and phone number
- Include the diagnosis
- Include insurance authorization
- Include provider signature
