Brookings Healthcare Auxiliary recently donated $2,000 to Brookings Health System’s new outreach specialty clinic to purchase a stretcher bed for pain management procedures.

The stretcher bed aids health care providers in administering pain management treatments. It allows a patient to lie comfortably during such procedures as epidural injections and joint injections. Because the procedures need to be performed with a live X-ray machine called a C-Arm, the bed is designed for open access. This gives health care providers the best possible images while performing a procedure.

The Auxiliary raised money to purchase the stretcher bed at the annual fall Masquerade fundraiser, which sells fashion accessories at an affordable price.

Brookings Healthcare Auxiliary is a community organization established in 1954 to promote and advance the welfare of Brookings Health System’s hospital and nursing home and United Living Community through volunteer service and fundraising

The outreach specialty clinic opened this past December, remodeled from a portion of the former nursing home, Brookview Manor. It allows Brookings Health System to host out-of-town physicians and surgeons to provide access to needed services close to home for area patients. Currently patients may see specialists for allergies, pain management, plastic surgery, and ear, nose and throat conditions.
