Every Employee Matters

At Brookings Health System, every employee matters. Our people make us a nationally recognized rural community healthcare system. As a team, we strive for excellence in all we do and work together to achieve our common goals. We are a culture who shares a passion and purpose to care for our friends and neighbors.

Our team members embody the spirit of teamwork, working together and across disciplines to care for local patients, residents and clients. How?

  • First, we are family and care for and accept one another so we can deliver high-quality, compassionate, personalized health care to our community.
  • Our people report they feel their immediate manager cares about them as a person as well as their development and growth at work. We also have programs in place to recognize and reward employee contributions.
  • Our inter-team relationships are built on trust and communication which allows us to confidently pass patients, residents and clients to one another for care. Our small teams foster a sense of camaraderie and collaboration to create a supportive work environment.
  • We can and do partner with other health systems and professionals to coordinate the best care for those we serve.
  • Teamwork is part of our DNA and common purpose: to do what is best for patients, residents, clients and their families.
  • We reinvest in our community and contribute financially to local organizations that support health, community/public service, education, arts, humanities, youth and senior citizens. We also organize volunteer opportunities for our people to give back time and talent.

We feel inspired by the work we do and use our strengths to proudly deliver high-quality, compassionate, personalized care to our friends, family and neighbors. Here's how you can build a sense of purpose with us:

  • Become a part of something bigger. We provide essential care to our region and serve as an entry point for healthcare. Every team member who works in a supporting role also makes an impact on the health and lives of those we serve.
  • Gain a rich experience. While working at our small health system, team members develop a diverse skill set from a wider range of responsibilities. They have greater autonomy and learn independent decision making that enhances problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Our people feel like they belong at Brookings Health. We’re inspired and motivated by the work we do. We are proud to work here and believe in our organization’s future success.
  • We are committed to the goals of Brookings Health System and find our work of providing high-quality, compassionate, personalized healthcare engaging.
  • In serving our rural community, we are fulfilled by the strong, personal ties we build with patients, residents and clients.

We offer a variety of programs that help team members balance their work commitments with their personal life. Here's what we offer:

  • Paid time off (PTO) accrual starts day 1 for all team members who are regularly scheduled to work 20+ hours per week. All employees with a 20+ hours per week work status are benefit eligible.
  • Staff are encouraged to take regular breaks, including time for meditation and relaxation with an on-site employee recharge room.
  • The employee assistance program offers support for a wide range of life challenges, including counseling, legal guidance and financial resources, at no cost to employees.
  • We use the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) intervention protocol to give psychological first aid to our first responder employees and to help them cope with traumatic events.

  • As a Breastfeeding Friendly Business, we give working mothers with nursing infants the time and accommodations to pump breastmilk for their babies.
