Brookings Health was recognized by The Chartis for Rural Health with a Performance Leadership Award for the seventh consecutive year. This year the health system was again recognized in all three categories: quality, outcomes and patient perspective.

As part National Rural Health Day, Brookings Health System announced it has been recognized with a Performance Leadership Award in all three measured categories: quality, outcomes and patient perspective. Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards honor top quartile performance among all rural hospitals in the nation. It is Brookings Health’s seventh consecutive year receiving the recognition and the second year in a row the health system has swept all three categories.

“Day-in and day-out, our team delivers the high-quality, compassionate, personalized health care our community has come to know and trust,” said Brookings Health President and CEO Jason Merkley. “Continued recognition such as the Performance Leadership Awards shows our team helps set the standard for care excellence in rural communities across America.”

The Performance Leadership Awards uses the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®, the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance. INDEX data is trusted and relied upon by rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints, hospital associations and state offices of rural health across the country to measure and monitor performance across a variety of areas impacting hospital operations and finance.

“Wherever we go in rural America, we witness first-hand the commitment, determination, and compassion with which rural hospitals serve their communities. Rural healthcare truly is mission-driven,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader, The Chartis Center for Rural Health. “This National Rural Health Day, let us recognize the efforts of this year’s Performance Leadership Award winners and all those driven to deliver high quality care throughout rural communities.”

This summer Brookings Hospital earned an overall five-star rating from CMS on their Care Compare website, the highest score possible for all hospitals nationwide. In addition, this spring Brookings Health System was named a Top 20 Rural Community Hospital for the sixth time by the National Rural Health Association and a World’s Best Hospital by Newsweek and Statista Inc.
