Brookings Health System to Hold Open House for Completion of Emergency Department and Laboratory Expansion

  • June 01, 2011

Brookings Health System will celebrate the completion of its newly remodeled and expanded Emergency Department and Laboratory with a public open house on Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Area residents and their families are invited to tour the beautiful new, state-of-the-art facility and see first-hand the latest in health care technology and treatment.

"We are elated that construction is complete and are anxious to share our excitement with area families," said Kevin Coffey, Interim Chief Executive Officer. "It seems we were just breaking ground for the new addition and now we are celebrating its opening.  Brookings Health System has grown with the community and is ready to meet the health care needs of area families in the years ahead."

From the minute they enter the door, visitors will notice the patient focus of the new facility. The Emergency Department has expanded from 7 rooms to 11 rooms, with a triage room, three major trauma rooms, new spaces specialized for orthopedic, obstetric, pediatric and psychiatric patients, and an outpatient treatment area. Private registration now makes the registration process more comfortable and efficient. The laboratory has added a new waiting area and two private drawing rooms, enhancing patient privacy and increasing efficiency. The renovations also incorporate enhanced security measures and a new internal communication system. "From where they park and register, to the latest technology and equipment, we've worked hard to anticipate the needs of our patients. Our facility revolves around making their visit a comfortable, healing experience," said Coffey.
