Brookings Health System and Avera Medical Group are hosting a free community educational event featuring Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Mark Mayer on Tuesday, May 22 starting at 6 p.m. in Brookings Hospital Conference Room A.

Dr. Mayer will discuss the Mako robotic arm assisted surgery system for hip and knee replacements. He will discuss the benefits of using this technology, including the high degree of accuracy, short recovery time and a personalized surgery plan.

“I am excited for the opportunity to talk to the folks in Brookings and the surrounding communities about our robotic joint replacement program. I am confident that those who attend will see the value of the robotic technology and will no longer feel the need to travel to larger cities for their joint replacement surgery. In fact, those in bigger cities may want to consider coming to Brookings for this innovative care,” said Dr. Mayer.
