Happy Spring from Oak Lane and Birch Way

Over the course of the past couple of months we have been busy watching movies, playing cards and, of course, bingo, attending music programs, and visiting with
each other.

One day we even had a Pajama Day. This was a day full of fun, giggles, and a couple of surprises. One of the highlights of our winter evenings has been when we gather around and listen to our book, Farmer Boy, by Laura Ingalls Wilder. It describes how Laura’s husband, Almanzo, grew up in New York state on a farm. It has fascinated us how the cobbler would make boots without using nails or how they baled hay using wood strips from an ash tree to bind together a bale of hay. The stories tell about sheering the sheep and the making wool clothing. Of course the planting and harvesting was all done by hand. We have all felt better reading these books as they remind us of the comfort s of home and the warmth and love of family and friends.

We are, however, looking forward to spring and going outside to soak up the sunshine and make a trip to Dollar Tree, Wal-Mart, or someplace fun. We are also looking forward to planting our flowers, and of course using our grill for a tasty treat. When you are around, come join us for a cookie (our favorite treat), a cup of coffee and a visit. We hope to see you soon.
