Brookings Health System's home health department recently earned a high, no deficiencies rating from the South Dakota Department of Health.

The Department of Health routinely surveys medical providers every two to three years based on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services guidelines. It examines all aspects of care, including the type of care provided and supporting documentation.

"Brookings Health System's home health team has consistently earned high ratings from the department of health," said interim CEO Kevin Coffey. "In 2009, Brookings Health System's home health department also received a no deficiencies rating. The rating reassures home health patients and their families they are receiving the best quality of care."

Home health provides customized care plans to patients who are recovering from an illness, undergoing treatment, disabled, chronically ill, or terminally ill. They provide skilled nursing care, home health aides for personal care, rehabilitation therapy, social services, patient and family education, medication monitoring and hospice services seven days a week.
