"Let's Get Moving!" to Battle Childhood Obesity

  • December 13, 2010

“Let’s Get Moving!” a new program at Brookings Health System program, offers children a chance to learn healthy eating habits and make exercise a lifestyle.

The Brookings Health System Foundation raised funds for “Let’s Get Moving!” at the inaugural sporting clays fun shoot event, Aiming for Health Care Excellence, and raised over $10,000 to support the new program. These funds mean that there will be no cost to families who attend the program!

“Let’s Get Moving!”, a 10 week childhood and adolescent weight management program, targets specific areas of developing a healthy lifestyle: family meal planning, cooking at home, eating out, healthy snacks, making exercise fun, and more! Introductory sessions are offered January 3 and 10, at Brookings Health System. Attendance at an introductory session is strongly encouraged for interested individuals. Classes officially begin January 17, 2011, at Brookings Health System, and will meet each Monday for 10 weeks. Children enrolled in the program will be physician referred and monitored weekly by Katy VanderWal, Brookings Health System Dietitian.

If you are interested in learning more about the classes beginning in January, contact Katy VanderWal, at (605) 696-9000 or visit our website at brookingshealth.org.
