New Monthly First Aid Class to be Taught at Brookings Health System

  • July 24, 2013

Brookings Health System will begin offering the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver First Aid class on the last Tuesday of every month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The first class will be held July 30 in hospital conference room Private Dining. Cost is $40.

The class is designed for bystanders to recognize an emergency. It teaches students critical skills to respond and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services arrive. Topics include how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shocks and other first aid emergencies.

The course is designed for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid to meet job, regulatory or other requirements.

Barb Booton, emergency medical technician-paramedic (EMT-P) at Brookings Health System with 35 years of emergency medical experience, will teach the course.
