Brookings Health System recently upgraded to a new, state-of-the-art GE AMX Navigate portable X-ray system. The new system produces diagnostic images with four-times higher resolution while using less radiation dose. This gives providers high-quality images with sharper detail while enhancing patient safety.

A portable X-ray system allows a radiology technologist to scan a patient at the bedside rather than moving the patient to an exam room. This convenience reduces discomfort and enhances overall care for patients with injuries or limited mobility. In addition, diagnostic images instantly appear on the portable X-ray screen, allowing health care providers to quickly diagnose and treat patients.

The new X-ray system also uses artificial intelligence to check image quality as well as analyze and flag potentially critically conditions on screen. In emergency cases where a patient has a collapsed lung, the portable X-ray assesses endotracheal tube placement. The system immediately alerts the care team if the tube placement needs to be repositioned, adding to patient safety.

For radiology technologists, the new portable X-ray system speeds up their workflow. The machine is ergonomically designed for easy movement and transport. An on-deck barcode reader automatically matches the patient to the correct exam. The increased technologist efficiency can lead to a quicker scan time and a quicker diagnosis .

Brookings Health System’s radiology department offers the most comprehensive clinical imaging capabilities in Brookings. Local patients can also receive MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine and X-ray procedures close to home, saving them time and money. Images can be shared with any medical provider from any health organization. For more information, please visit brookingshealth.org/Imaging.
