NFL Play60 Starts Oct. 1 at Boys and Girls Club

  • September 25, 2012

The NFL Play60 ReCharge! free, after-school program will start Oct. 1 at the Boys & Girls Club of Brookings. The program is sponsored by Brookings Health System and Hy-Vee.

NFL Play60 ReCharge! lasts for seven weeks and will be held Monday evenings at 4 p.m. and Wednesday evenings at 3 p.m. All children are welcomed to participate and do not need to be a member of the Boys & Girls Club. NFL Play60 t-shirts are available for $10.

NFL Play60 ReCharge! is designed to help children in grades 1 to 5 learn about and practice good nutrition and physical activity habits through fun, team-based strategies. It focuses on four core-concepts:

  • “Energy In” (nutrition)
  • “Energy Out” (physical activity)
  • Teamwork
  • Goal-setting

By participating in ReCharge! children will:

  • Learn how and why to eat healthy and be physically active — and believe in the benefits of these healthy behaviors
  • Practice healthy habits — by eating healthy snacks and engaging in physical activity in their after-school program
  • Develop transferable life skills — including healthy eating, physical activity, teamwork, and goal-setting — that they can apply outside the after-school environment.

Sign-up sheets and parental consent forms for the NFL Play60 ReCharge! program are located at the Boys & Girls Club, Hy-Vee and Brookings Health System.
