Over $18,000 in Net Proceeds Raised at Aiming to Inspire Health Sporting Clays Fundraiser

Funds go to Brookings Health System Ambulance
Over 116 hunting and firearm enthusiasts supported Brookings Health System Foundation Thursday evening at the fifth annual Aiming to Inspire Health sporting clays fundraiser. The event, presented by First Bank & Trust, was held at Medary Creek Hunt Club, rural Aurora, S.D.
“Based upon the initial tally from sponsorships and shooting registrations, the event raised approximately $18,160 in net proceeds, all of which will help pay for a new ambulance at Brookings Health System,” said Foundation Development Officer Barb Anderson.
A new Type III ambulance at Brookings Health System will replace an older Type III as part of a fleet of five offering the only Advanced Life Support (ALS) service in Brookings County. It will be built and stocked as an ALS unit and will serve as the primary 911 response unit.
Hunter Jensen walked away with the top youth under 16 shooter award with a score of 33. Chris Karch was the top adult shooter with a score of 44. Both received $100 gift cards donated by Scheels of Sioux Falls. Second place in the adult category went to Connor Rude and Joel Nielsen shooting a score of 43 which earned them gift cards donated by Gas N More and Walmart, plus hunting apparel from Dacotah Bank. 3M Top Shots was the top team with a score of 130. Team members Chris Bessler, Chris Duklet, Mark Shoup and Dan Svodbodny each received a $75 Scheels gift card. All winners are residents of Brookings, with the exception of Chris Duklet who is a resident of Watertown.
Participants who hit a ghost clay during their round were entered into a drawing. As a result, Dr. Jeffrey Johnson, Dan Beinhorn and Rich Widman all of Brookings, each won a pair of Pentax binoculars. John Bloom of Tyler, Minn. won a $200 package of hunting gear when his name was drawn from the 83 early bird deadline registrations. Ghost clay and early bird prizes were donated by Kjergaard Sports of Lake Benton, Minn.
Raffle winners were Ryan Schievelbein of White, SD for a full facility family membership valued at $516 donated by Outdoor Adventure Center. Jeff Morehouse of Brookings won a $200 package of binoculars and ammunition bags from Kjergaards Sports. A two-hour facility and equipment rental donated by Dakota Nature Park, valued at $125 was won by Dawn Crose of Volga, SD.
The event also included free hunting dog demonstrations by dog breeder Rod Brandenburger. Topics covered obedience, bird/game pointing, tracking and retriever training. Ambulance Director Gordon Dekkenga provided on-going tours of the ambulance.
“Our heartfelt thanks go out to all of our sponsors, volunteers and participants who helped make the event a success this year,” said Anderson.
