Brookings Health System’s ER has the FASTEST throughput time in a 75-mile radius according to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Patients are treated and discharged efficiently from the emergency room. Emergency medical providers have access to the best technology, such as CT and labs, which leads to early, accurate emergency diagnosis. In addition, continuing staff education also contributes to early clinical recognition for critical conditions. Brookings Health’s hospital-based ambulance service provides quick advance-life support transfers, getting patients to higher levels of care when needed.

As part of a Top 20 Rural Community Hospital, the ER meets and exceeds key performance indicators for providing high-quality emergency medicine. For example, the ER’s trauma team activates within 15 minutes of notification from emergency management. This helps quickly administer care to patients upon arrival. In addition, the ER team exceeds state and national averages for administering blood clot busting medication within 30 minutes of arrival for patients who experience chest pain or possible heart attack. The team also exceeds state averages for providing brain scan results within 45 minutes of arrival for patients with stroke symptoms.
