White Medical Clinic Partners with Hy-Vee Pharmacy to Provide Common Prescription Medications to Community

White Medical Clinic in White, SD, has partnered with Hy-Vee Pharmacy of Brookings to provide 10 commonly used prescription medications on-site at the clinic.

“The partnership helps us save patients with common illnesses a long drive to a pharmacy if they so choose,” said Karen Bumann, certified physician assistant at White Medical Clinic. “The medications are ones that typically would benefit the patient if started immediately rather than waiting to obtain the prescription the following day.”

The available medications include six commonly prescribed antibiotics for adults and children used to treat a variety of common bacterial infections, including strep throat, bladder infections, pneumonia or lung infections, skin or wound infections, ear infections, and sinus infections. The clinic can also dispense a medication to reduce dizziness, steroid tablets for inflammation or lung conditions, a topical cream for skin rashes, and an inhaler for breathing difficulties such as wheezing or shortness of breath,

If patients who are seen at the clinic are prescribed one of the 10 medications, they have the option of receiving it right at the clinic or at their own preferred pharmacy. If they opt to receive the prescription at the clinic, White Medical Clinic will then arrange the prescription to be dispensed from Hy-Vee accompanied by phone consultation with a Hy-Vee pharmacist.

All prescriptions except the inhaler will have generic pricing. White Medical Clinic will also coordinate coverage through a patient’s prescription drug plan and accept payment for prescriptions on behalf of Hy-Vee Pharmacy.

White Medical Clinic offers primary care, women’s health care, pediatric care, immunizations, preventive medicine and physical exams. It also offers area residents access to enhanced laboratory services and medical specialists. An integrated medical records system gives patients a continuity of care at Brookings Health System’s main campus.
