Safe Sitter Course Set for July 13

Registration is now open for Brookings Health System’s popular Safe Sitter Class. Paramedic Wendy Long will teach a session on Tuesday, July 13 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Ambulance Station and Education Center, 2300 Yorkshire Drive.

Free, Walk-In Vaccination Center Set for June 9

The Brookings County Pandemic Planning and Coordination Committee (PPCC) will hold a free, walk-in COVID-19 community vaccination center, also referred to as a point of dispensing (POD), on Wednesday, June 9. The event will run from 4 to 8 p.m. at Swiftel Center in Brookings.

Klinkhammer Hired as Long-Term Care Administrator

Jeremy Klinkhammer, LNHA, was recently hired as the new long-term care administrator at Brookings Health System. In this role he is responsible for leading the care team at The Neighborhoods at Brookview skilled nursing home and managing Brookhaven Estates congregate living apartments for seniors.

COVID-19 Vaccines: Where do we go from here?

On April 5, South Dakota officially entered phase 2 of the Department of Health’s COVID-19 vaccination plan, defined as a large number of vaccine doses available in the state. In the seven weeks since entering phase 2, less than 3,500 additional Brookings County residents have chosen to receive the vaccine. In comparison, nearly 5,800 Brookings County residents chose vaccination in the month of March alone, a time in which supply was limited and demand was high.

Understanding Grief Classes Start June 3

Brookings Health System’s free six-week educational series, Understanding Grief, will begin on Thursday, June 3. The class series is led by Social Worker Donna Bumann, M.S.

Safe@Home Course Prepares Kids to Stay Home Alone

Brookings Health System will offer Safe@Home by SafeSitter®, a program designed for students in grades 4 to 6 to prepare them to be safe when they are home alone. The class will be held on Wednesday, June 2 from 10 to 11 a.m. inside the Ambulance Station and Education Center.

Free Vaccination Center for 12 to 17 Year Olds Set for May 20

Following the recent emergency use authorization (EUA) expansion by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Brookings County Pandemic Planning and Coordination Committee (PPCC) will hold a free, COVID-19 community vaccination center for adolescents ages 12 to 17 on Thursday, May 20. The event will run from 4 to 8 p.m. at Swiftel Center in Brookings.

Phase Four Cardiopulmonary Rehab Moves to FIT

Last week Brookings Health System moved phase four of the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program to the Fishback Indoor Training (FIT) Facility located at 3105 Main Avenue South in Brookings. The move improves access for patients who exercise under the guidance of cardiopulmonary health professionals.
